Regarding Ishraq Hossain’s meeting at the City Corporation as the mayor, Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Advisor Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan said that he expects more responsible and mature behavior from him.
Advisor Asif Mahmud said this at night when asked about a meeting held by Ishraq at the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Nagar Bhaban on Monday afternoon.
Advisor Asif Mahmud said, “I expect a big party like BNP to take into consideration the suffering of the citizens. At the same time, I expect more responsible and mature behavior from the one who (Ishraq) is carrying out the entire program and sitting in the Nagar Bhaban.”
Earlier, Ishraq Hossain held a meeting with the officials of the DSCC Waste Management Department at the Nagar Bhaban auditorium around 12 noon. There, he instructed the officials and employees to work to deal with the dengue situation. The banner of the meeting had Ishraq Hossain’s title of Mayor written on it.
Local Government Advisor Asif Mahmud said, “It is being said that the Local Government Department has violated the law in the entire matter of Ishraq Hossain. In fact, the Local Government Department has not violated any law. While the matter was pending in the court, the gazette expired and the term of the City Corporation also expired. After the term of the City Corporation expires, there is an opportunity to elect a new mayor. Apart from this, there is no opportunity to take the oath.’

Regarding Ishraq Hossain’s meeting with City Corporation officials, Advisor Asif Mahmud said, ‘The matter is very embarrassing for us. The City Corporation provides most of the city’s citizen services. According to our audit, 30 to 40 percent of the citizen services in Dhaka South City have decreased due to the movement for a month. Dengue outbreak is coming. Apart from this, since it is the rainy season now, there are some other problems including waterlogging due to rain. Dealing with these is becoming a challenge for the City Corporation.’
City Corporation officials are sitting in meetings at the WASA office and trying their best to keep the activities going, Asif Mahmud said, ‘If any official wants to go to the City Corporation, they are being treated harshly.’
