I don’t see any obstacles to holding elections in February: Nazrul Islam Khan
Nazrul Islam Khan said, “I do not see any obstacles in holding the elections in February. Since I do not see any obstacles, there is no reason to worry that it may or may not happen.” We are waiting, hopefully the government will soon come out with their clear statement on this matter and advise the Election Commission accordingly.’
At that time, another member of the BNP standing committee, Salahuddin Ahmed, told reporters that the BNP is taking the necessary steps to implement the July National Charter, but there are differences of opinion on 51 of the 826 recommendations. Earlier, upon reaching Hathazari, the two BNP leaders visited the graves of the late Amir of Hefazat-e-Islam, Maulana Shah Ahmed Shafi and Junaid Babunagri. Later, they paid a courtesy call on the Director General of the Madrasa, Mufti Khalil Ahmed Qashemi and Shaykhul Hadith Sheikh Ahmed.
After offering Friday prayers at Hathazari Madrasa, the BNP leaders had lunch there. Later, they left for Chittagong’s Fatikchhari’s Babunagar Al Jamiatul Islamia Azizul Ulum Madrasa to meet Maulana Shah Muhibbullah Babunagari, the Ameer of Hefazat Islam.

BNP leaders said that the party leaders went to Hathazari Madrasa for a courtesy call on behalf of party chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and acting chairman Tarique Rahman. Although BNP leaders said it was a courtesy call, the party leaders have sought the support and cooperation of the leaders of Hefazat-e-Islam, including the leaders of the Ulema, in view of the upcoming elections.
On July 20, when they arrived in Chittagong for the ‘Desh Garte July Padayatra’ rally, leaders and activists of the National Citizens Party (NCP) including convener Nahid Islam went to pay a courtesy call on the teachers and students of Hathazari Al-Jamiatul Ahlia Darul Uloom Muinul Islam Madrasa.
