A court has sentenced a man to life imprisonment and his wife to life imprisonment in a murder case involving a student of Chittagong University who was summoned to his home. First Additional Chittagong Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md. Abdur Rahman gave the verdict on Monday.

Government Prosecutor Mainul Hossain Bhuiyan told Prothom Alo that the court sentenced accused Md. Iqbal to life imprisonment, a fine of Tk 30,000, and an additional three-month imprisonment in default; his wife Yasmin Akhter to life imprisonment, a fine of Tk 10,000, and an additional one-month imprisonment in default; and Iqbal’s associate Md. Helal to life imprisonment, a fine of Tk 10,000, and an additional one-month imprisonment in default. The court has issued a warrant against the accused as they are absconding after going out on bail. Court sources said that on March 22, 2017, Md., a postgraduate student of the Bangla Department of Chittagong University, was found tied up in the toilet of a rented house in the Shahidnagar area of ​​Baezid Bostami Police Station in the city. The police recovered Alauddin’s body.

In this incident, the deceased’s father Shah Alam filed a case with the police station. Later, after the investigation, the police filed a charge sheet in the court. It said that Alauddin used to teach Yasmin. This led to a relationship between the two. Later, Yasmin got married. But Alauddin had been blackmailing her with some videos of the two being intimate. As a result, Yasmin and her husband planned the murder together and staged a drama to rent a house. They went to a house in Shahidnagar area to rent a house. Alauddin was already called there. They said they liked the house and stayed there. In the meantime, they killed Alauddin, tied his hands and feet and threw him in the toilet and left. The court started the trial in this case by framing charges on February 23, 2022.

The court gave this verdict after the testimony of 10 witnesses. Exactly a week ago, Chittagong University student Alauddin was murdered as planned by breaking into a house under the pretext of renting it.
