Responsible sources concerned said that for this purpose, a draft of the July Declaration has already been sent by the government to several political parties, including the BNP. The government wants to finalize it in collaboration with the political parties before August 5.

Government sources said that the interim government’s planning advisor Wahiduddin Mahmud has been given the responsibility of preparing the ‘July Declaration’. He sent a draft of the July Declaration to the BNP.

Sources concerned said that the government wants constitutional recognition of the July Declaration. The government wants to include some more issues in this declaration, for which the opinions of the political parties are needed.

BNP sources said that the reforms and the July Declaration were discussed in detail in the meeting of the National Standing Committee of the BNP’s policy-making council for two consecutive days (Tuesday and Wednesday).

A member of the standing committee told Prothom Alo that the declaration mentions the period from the creation of the state of Pakistan in 1947 to the Liberation War of 1971 and the August 5, 2024 mass uprising. But there is no mention of the 1952 language movement, the 1962 education movement, and the 1969 mass uprising. BNP may seek inclusion of all historical events in the declaration.
