Flood water has completely receded from Parshuram and Chagalnaiya, upazilas bordering Feni. The flood situation has improved in various areas of Feni Sadar and Daganbhuiyan Upazilas. However, some parts of Fulgazi Upazila are still under water. As the flood water recedes, the picture of the damage has emerged. The upazila administration has started collecting information for post-flood rehabilitation.

The flood in Feni began on July 8. Due to continuous rains and landslides from India, 36 embankments of the Muhuri, Kahua and Silonia rivers in Feni were breached, completely affecting two upazilas and partially affecting three upazilas in the district.

A field visit showed that Parashuram and Fulgazi upazilas were the most affected by the flood. Water is still entering the localities through the breached embankments of the three rivers in the two upazilas. As a result, the villagers have not yet been able to start repair work on the damaged houses near the embankments. Local residents are trying to prepare the dilapidated rural roads for vehicular traffic through voluntary work. Various villages in Anandapur union of Fulgazi upazila are still waterlogged. People in that area have locked their houses and taken shelter elsewhere.

The road from Munshirhat union of Fulgazi to Kamalla has been damaged by the flood. A group of volunteers is working to repair the road. Abul Kalam, the leader of the volunteers’ team, said that the damaged roads are being repaired with soil and mortar on a voluntary basis by collecting funds with the help of local people in the area.

Hasina Akhter, a resident of Daulatpur village in Anandpur union, has taken shelter with her family on the second floor of a nearby high-rise building as her house has been flooded for three days. This morning, she said that no government official has been seen so far to inquire about the people trapped in the water in this area.

Abdul Karim, an old man from Kalirhat area of the same union, said that like last time, his house is also flooded. Even if there was so much rain or flood in the past, water never rose in his house. Given the slow rate of water receding, it may take another day or two for the water to drain from the house.
