Former MP Atiur Rahman and his wife banned from leaving the country
Former Member of Parliament (MP) of Sherpur-1 constituency Atiur Rahman Atik and his wife Shantana Begum have been banned from leaving the country. Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge and Senior Special Judge Court Judge Md. Zakir Hossain issued the ban on Saturday (May 24).
The court issued the ban following an application by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), said ACC Public Relations Officer Akhtarul Islam.
ACC Deputy Director Mozammil Hossain filed the application seeking a ban on their departure.
The application states that Atiur Rahman Atik has misused his power, embezzled government funds through irregularities and corruption, and acquired illegal wealth in his own name and the name of his family members, an allegation that is under investigation by the ACC.
During the investigation, the ACC learned that they can leave the country at any time and go abroad. If they leave the country, there is a possibility that the investigation process will be disrupted. In this situation, it is necessary to ban them from leaving the country.
