Former ministers Imran Ahmed and Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury banned from traveling abroad

The court hasĀ  former Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Imran Ahmed and former State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury from traveling abroad. Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md. Zakir Hossain passed the order on Thursday following an application by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

The ACC filed an application in the court seeking a ban on their travel abroad. After hearing the case, the court banned them from traveling abroad.

On April 30, the ACC filed a case against Imran Ahmed on charges of acquiring assets beyond known sources of income. He was charged with illegal assets worth Tk 9 million and unusual transactions worth Tk 6 crore.

Imran Ahmed has been in jail since October 20 last year after the Awami League government fell on August 5 in a student-public uprising.

On the other hand, on April 7, the ACC filed a case against Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury on charges of acquiring assets worth 6.5 crore taka outside known income and suspicious transactions of over 13.5 crore taka. Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury fled Bangladesh to London after the fall of the Awami League government.
