Former MD of Islami Bank Monirul Mawla arrested
Former Managing Director (MD) of Islami Bank, Monirul Mawla, has been arrested. The Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Branch (DB) police arrested him from Bashundhara residential area in the capital Dhaka at around 12:15 am on Sunday. He was taken to the DB office on Mintu Road at night.

Joint Commissioner of DB South, Nasirul Islam, confirmed this information. He said that there is a case against Monirul Mawla in the name of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). He has been arrested in that case. With the help of intelligence agencies, S Alam Group took over Islami Bank on January 5, 2017. After that, the Central Bank received information that the group had withdrawn Tk 91,000 crore from the bank through various means. Monirul Mawla was the MD for most of the time when these loans were given. He developed a friendship with S Alam due to the fact that they lived in the same area. Therefore, after S Alam took over the bank, he was made MD. After the fall of the Awami League government on August 5, most of the members of the bank’s board and most of the DMDs went into hiding. At that time, the chairman of the bank was Ahsanul Alam, son of S Alam. However, Monirul Moula was still alive. Later, under pressure from officials, the board of directors sent him on leave.
