The court has sent former secretary of Chittagong Education Board Professor Narayan Chandra Nath to jail in a case filed against him for allegedly getting his son a GPA-5 in the HSC examination through fraud. Chittagong Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kazi Mizanur Rahman passed this order after the hearing on Tuesday.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (Prosecution) of the city police Mofiz Uddin told Prothom Alo that Narayan Chandra Nath was on four-week bail from the High Court in a case filed by the Chittagong Education Board authorities. As the period expired, he surrendered and applied for bail in the Chittagong Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court. After the hearing, the court rejected the bail application and sent him to jail.

According to court sources, former secretary of the Chittagong Education Board, Professor AKM Shamsu Uddin Azad, filed a case against Narayan and four others at the Panchlaish police station in the city on January 21. The other accused are Narayan Chandra Nath’s son Nakshatra Debnath, former senior system analyst of the education board Kibria Masud Khan and former chairman Professor Mustafa Kamrul Akhtar.

Narayan Chandra Nath has served as the controller of examinations and secretary in the Chittagong Education Board. While he was the secretary in 2023, his son participated in the HSC examination. After the results were published, allegations of fraud arose. Later, the Department of Secondary and Higher Education (MAUSH) investigated the matter. After the allegations were raised, he was posted as the director of the Chittagong region of MAUSH from the Chittagong Education Board on July 9 last year.

On the other hand, on September 17 last year, the directive signed by Shatarupa Talukder, Senior Assistant Secretary of the Disciplinary Department of the Department of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHHE), said that the investigation had found evidence of fraud allegations against Narayan Chandra Nath. Therefore, it was directed to take disciplinary action including a case against Narayan as per the Government Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 2018 and cancel the results of the star. And on September 23, Narayan Chandra Nath was made an Officer on Special Duty (OSD).
