Five top leaders of the National Citizens Party (NCP) have suddenly arrived in Cox’s Bazar on the special day of the one-year anniversary of the July mass uprising.
According to Cox’s Bazar airport sources, these five leaders landed at Cox’s Bazar airport on a Bangladesh Biman flight from Dhaka at around 11:30 am on Tuesday.

They are NCP Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari, Chief Organizer (Northern Region) Sarjis Alam, Chief Organizer (Southern Region) Hasnat Abdullah and Senior Joint Member Secretary Tasnim Zara. Tasnim Zara’s husband Khaled Saifullah is also with them. He is the joint convener of the NCP.
The sudden arrival of the five NCP leaders in Cox’s Bazar has created various rumors and discussions in political circles.
According to airport and related sources, the five NCP leaders got off the Bangladesh Biman with other passengers and went to the five-star hotel Sea Pearl Beach Resort and Spa (formerly known as Royal Tulip) on Inani Beach in Ukhia, about 20 kilometers away. They were picked up from the airport in a hotel microbus. It was learned from talking to law enforcement officials that the administration or law enforcement was not informed about the sudden arrival of the five NCP leaders in Cox’s Bazar.
Rumors have spread in political circles that the five leaders went to Cox’s Bazar to meet with former US Ambassador to Bangladesh Peter Haas.
Cox’s Bazar District BNP President Shahjahan Chowdhury told Prothom Alo that the sudden arrival of the top five NCP leaders in Cox’s Bazar on the special day of the July Uprising anniversary and their stay at a five-star hotel 15-20 kilometers away from the city has created suspicion. It is generating various curiosities among people. Especially after hearing about Peter Haas’ meeting with them, people are becoming more suspicious. However, he is skeptical about Peter Haas’ presence. He is investigating this matter.
Peter Haas is currently working as a strategic advisor to Accelerate Energy, a US multinational company involved in the export of liquefied natural gas (LNG). Before that, he served as the 17th US ambassador to Dhaka. He was the ambassador from January 2022 to July 2024.
At the time of writing this report at 3:15 pm, media personnel were stationed outside the Sea Pearl. Some BNP workers and supporters were also seen there.
When Nasiruddin Patwari was called by Prothom Alo to inquire about the matter, he let Hasnat Abdullah speak. Hasnat handed the phone over to retired army officer Kamruzzaman, who introduced himself as the Sea Pearl’s chief security officer.
The person who introduced himself as Kamruzzaman told Prothom Alo that Peter Haas or anyone like him did not come to their hotel.
NCP leader Nasiruddin Patwari told private television channel Ekhon TV that they went to Cox’s Bazar for a visit. The meeting with Peter Haas is a rumor and propaganda.
Various events are being held in Dhaka on the first anniversary of the July Uprising. A program titled ’36 July Celebration’ began on Manik Mia Avenue in the capital in the morning. The historic July Declaration will be read out at this event organized by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs.
Professor Muhammad Yunus, the chief advisor to the interim government, will read out the July Declaration at the South Plaza of the National Parliament at 5 pm.
