Five arrested in Rangpur attack: Police
Police have arrested five people in connection with the attack and vandalism of Hindu homes in Aldadpur Balapara village of Gangachara in Rangpur.
This was announced in a message sent by the Media and Public Relations Department of the Police Headquarters on Wednesday morning. Police said that a victim has filed a case with Gangachara Model Police Station in this incident. An unknown number of 1,000 to 1,200 people have been named as accused in the case. Later, five people were arrested in a joint operation.

Aldadpur village is predominantly Hindu. It borders Kishoreganj in Nilphamari. According to Gangachara Police Station sources, last Saturday, the police received a complaint that a teenager from the village had posted derogatory writings and pictures about the Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) on Facebook. Later, after finding the truth of the complaint, he was immediately arrested and brought to the police station around 8:30 pm on Saturday. The teenager was sent to the Combined Child Rehabilitation Center through the court on Sunday afternoon after filing a case under the Cyber Security Act. It was learned from talking to the police and local residents that after the teenager was taken to the police station, agitated people including a procession went to his house on Saturday demanding justice. At around 10 pm, another procession came for the second time and attacked and vandalized the house of one of the teenager’s relatives. Later that night, the police and the army went to control the situation. According to local residents, when the agitated crowd started attacking houses again around 3:30 pm on Sunday, the police tried to stop them. At that time, several houses were vandalized. A police constable was seriously injured in this. He was admitted to the hospital.
According to the Gangachara Upazila administration, 15 houses were vandalized and looted in this incident.
