Every market, shop, transportation and construction sector in the country is now under the control of extortionists: Mamunul Haque
The party’s Ameer Maulana Muhammad Mamunul Haque made this reaction in his speech at the regular monthly meeting of the central executive committee of Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis on Saturday. The meeting was chaired by the party’s Secretary General Maulana Jalaluddin Ahmed. After the meeting, the party’s media coordinator Hasan Junaid gave this information in a press release.
Maulana Mamunul Haque said, “Now every market, shop, transport and construction sector in the country is under the control of extortionists. The long-standing occupation and extortion culture of the leaders and workers of a particular political party has now become a terrible social disease. Not only businessmen, but also imams, khatibs and scholars are falling victim to this banditry, which is very worrying and condemnable.’
Commenting that such a murder is a shame for the nation, Mamunul Haque said, ‘The murder of businessman Sohag with stones and sharp weapons in front of hundreds of people is not just a personal crime, but also a heinous consequence of lack of justice and state failure. Such an incident is extremely shameful for this nation.’
Emphasizing the need for electoral reform, Mamunul Haque said, ‘We want the next national parliament election to be held in a system where partial PR (proportional representation) system is implemented in the lower house and full PR (proportional representation) system in the upper house. This will reduce the evil of corrupt circles from the political arena and establish justice in the electoral system.’
Other leaders of the party said at the meeting that the current government has completely failed to protect the lives and property of the people. The common people are in fear due to the violence of extortionist circles and terrorists. These criminal groups are becoming more and more reckless, aided by some corrupt elements of the administration.
