Election Commission to hold meeting with students to encourage voting
Chief Returning Officer Professor Mohammad Jasim Uddin gave this information at a briefing in front of the Returning Officer’s office at the university’s Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Building on Friday afternoon. Returning Officer Professor Golam Rabbani and Professor SM Shamim Reza were present at the time. Professor Jasim Uddin said, “We will hold four hall- and faculty-based meetings on how voters will vote. Here, our commission will inform the voters about the voting process. Apart from this, a video has already been released on the university’s website about the voting process in the elections. The voting process has been explained in detail there.”
The Chief Returning Officer said, “We do not want any student to stand in line unnecessarily or waste time in the booth. This may disrupt the voting process. We will request the students to complete the voting process within the time it takes and give others a chance. This request will be for our beloved students.’
Regarding the withdrawal of candidates from the election, Professor Jasim Uddin said, ‘Anyone can withdraw informally. Candidates have the freedom, if someone withdraws, it is their own matter. Our ballot papers have been printed. Now there is no opportunity to withdraw their candidacy from the Election Commission.’
Professor Golam Rabbani, Head of the Task Force on Election Code of Conduct and Returning Officer, said, ‘There have been complaints about online bullying. We have already called the admin of one page and ordered him to show cause.’
Professor Golam Rabbani said, ‘Our observation shows that the page named “Siksharthir Sangsad Dui” has already been closed. However, if it is found that it is still active, we will call the concerned admin before the Task Force Committee. “If they still do not follow the instructions, we will be forced to take punitive action.”
