EC preparing for February and April elections
There was no discussion in the meeting between the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin and the Chief Advisor to the interim government, Professor Muhammad Yunus, about the date or possible time of the next national parliamentary election. However, the Election Commission (EC) is preparing for the national parliamentary election with two ‘timeframes’ of February and April next year. This constitutional body, not the local government, is preparing in full swing for the parliamentary election.

CEC Nasir Uddin said this in response to questions from journalists at his office at the Election Building in Agargaon in the capital on Tuesday. He had a courtesy meeting with the Chief Advisor last Thursday. However, no official statement has been made so far on what was discussed in that meeting.

After the meeting, Friday and Saturday were weekly holidays. Then, due to physical illness, the CEC did not come to his office last Sunday and Monday. The CEC went to office for the first time yesterday after meeting the Chief Advisor. He faced the journalists in the afternoon.
In response to the journalists’ questions, the CEC said that the meeting with the Chief Advisor on Thursday was basically a courtesy meeting. There was no meeting with any ‘agenda’ (discussion agenda). However, at the moment, with the election at the center of discussion, some issues come up as ‘side talk’ in the courtesy meeting. The Chief Advisor wants to gift the nation a free, fair, and credible election. The Chief Advisor wanted to know about the preparations of the Election Commission. He (CEC) told the Chief Advisor that the EC is preparing ‘in full gear’ (at full speed). The EC is preparing amidst various challenges.
