DUCSU elections: Abu Bakr came to vote in a wheelchair from Mugda

Abu Bakr Siddique spoke to Prothom Alo after voting at the university’s Senate Bhaban center on Tuesday.

Abu Bakr Siddique is a student of the 2022-23 session of the Marketing Department of the University. When asked why he came to vote from such a distance, Abu Bakr Siddique said that he came to vote to exercise his democratic rights. Abu Bakr’s father, Md. Abdul Hannan, works in a private company. Due to his job, he comes to Dhaka University with his son only one day a week. After completing classes, he returns to his home in North Mugda with his son.

Abdul Hannan said that Abu Bakr is his only child. Abu Bakr is born with special needs. He is the one who brings his son to and from the university. Despite being busy, he brought Abu Bakr to vote in the DUCSU elections today. Abu Bakr said that he was able to vote for his favorite candidate. He said, “I am very happy with my vote. I had already chosen my favorite panel. I voted according to my preference. I hope they will win.”

When asked about his choice of candidates, Abu Bakr told Prothom Alo that he has tried to select candidates who will work for the welfare of the students. He expects the DUCSU elections to be held in such a festive atmosphere every year.

Expecting that the next national parliamentary elections will also be held in a fair and festive atmosphere like DUCSU, Abu Bakr said that there has been no election in the country for the last 15 years. The elections started with DUCSU. May this trend continue in the national elections as well.

After completing his studies, this student wants to work for the welfare of his family and the country. He said, “My family is suffering a lot for me. I want to work for the welfare of the country and family. I also want to work in the marketing sector of the country.”

Voting for the DUCSU and Hall parliamentary elections began at eight polling stations from 8 am today. Voting will continue until 4 pm.
