DUCSU elections: 18 candidates collect nomination papers on fifth day

On the fifth day, Saturday, 18 people have collected nomination papers to participate in the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) elections. And 23 people have collected nomination papers for the hall parliament.

DUCSU Chief Returning Officer Professor Mohammad Jasim Uddin gave this information in a briefing on the third floor of the university’s Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Building this afternoon.

In the briefing, Professor Mohammad Jasim Uddin said that on the fifth day, 18 people have collected nomination papers for various positions of DUCSU. Among them, 4 people have collected nomination papers for the post of Vice President (VP), 3 people for the post of Secretary and 11 for the post of Member. The Chief Returning Officer further said that so far, a total of 61 people have collected nomination papers in DUCSU. Among them, 14 are for the post of VP, 1 person for the post of GS, 2 people for the post of AGS, 21 for the post of Secretary and 23 for the post of Member. So far, 13 people have submitted nomination papers.

So far, six female students have collected nomination papers for various positions of DUCSU. Among them, one has filed nomination papers for the post of VP, one for the post of Associate General Secretary, one for the post of Health and Environment Secretary, one for the post of Research and Publication and two for the post of Member.

In response to a question, the Chief Returning Officer said, “The student organizations may be taking time to discuss or form an alliance among themselves. We hope that the most nomination papers will be collected in the last two days. We are prepared accordingly.”

Regarding the demand of women to change the polling station, Professor Mohammad Jasim Uddin said, “A request has been received regarding changing the polling station. There is a meeting regarding this tomorrow afternoon. A decision will be taken after discussion there. However, importance is being given to ensuring that no congestion is created at the polling station. It will be ensured that every student can vote in a joyful atmosphere.

Professor Mohammad Jasim Uddin also said that the accused in the July coup attack case will not be able to be candidates or voters in the DUCSU elections. If they are found even the day before the election, they will be prevented from voting.

According to the DUCSU schedule, nomination papers can be collected from 10 am to 4 pm every day from August 12 to 18. The last date for submitting nomination papers is August 19 at 3 pm. After the scrutiny, the final candidate list will be published on August 21. The fee for each nomination form has been fixed at Tk 300.

The final voter list for DUCSU and Hall Parliament elections has already been published. 157 people have been excluded from the draft voter list in the final voter list.

The total number of voters in the final list is 39,775. Of these, 20,871 are male voters and 18,902 are female voters.
