Desk Report,
Did 356 crore rupees go down the drain?
The previous Awami League government had built Mail Processing and Logistics Service Centers (MPCs) in 14 districts of the country at a cost of about Tk 365 crore to modernize and accelerate the postal system. But even after three years, these centers are practically unused, equipment worth hundreds of crores of taka has become a ‘
‘. This project of wasting public money is very disappointing. Questions are now being raised about why this project failed, who was involved in it. Many are lying around, and many are damaged, and the chiller chamber, an important piece of equipment in the transport of perishable goods, is also of no use.
Did 356 crore rupees go down the drain?
The reason for the non-operation of the service centers is being cited as the lack of software and lack of skilled and adequate manpower. The 420 sets of hardware purchased at a cost of Tk 13 crore are also unused due to the non-provision of software for the launch of Smart Postage Solution (SPS). Even the rationality of purchasing this SPS package under the MPC project has been questioned, because it was originally purchased for the parcel and e-commerce services of the post office. Is this just a bad plan, or is there another motive behind it? The project has suffered such a disastrous outcome due to the lack of feasibility study and demand assessment. There have been allegations of commercial interests being involved in the purchase of equipment. This is a serious allegation that needs to be properly investigated.
