Demand to cancel BNP’s convening committee in Rajshahi, calling it ‘Awami League’s ally’
A section of the party’s leaders and activists have demanded the cancellation of the Rajshahi Metropolitan BNP’s convening committee, calling it an ally of the Awami League. This demand was made from a human chain organized at Sahebbazar Zero Point in the city around 11 am today, Thursday.

The program was held under the banner of ‘Metropolitan BNP, Organs and Associate Organizations, Rajshahi’. It was led by the former leaders of the four police stations of the Metropolitan BNP. They demanded the formation of a new Rajshahi Metropolitan, Police Station and Ward Committee with tested and dedicated leaders and activists, excluding the Awami League’s ally.
The participating BNP leaders say that this is a movement to protect the BNP in Rajshahi Metropolitan. Earlier, the leaders and activists of this section last held the same program on May 25. In addition, they held a protest rally on May 3 and a press conference on May 11 with the same demand.
The one-and-a-half-hour-long human chain was addressed by former president of Boalia Thana BNP in the city, Saidur Rahman, former president of Nagar Jubo Dal, Abul Kalam Azad, former general secretary of Boalia Thana BNP, Rabiul Alam, former president of Shah Makhdum Thana, Md. Masud, former general secretary Abdul Matin, former president of Rajpara Thana, Shawkat Ali, former general secretary Ali Hossain, former president of Motihar Thana BNP, Ansar Ali, Rajshahi Divisional Organizing Secretary of Mohila Dal Central Committee, Roksana Begum (Tuktuki), among others. Former president of Nagar Jubo Dal, Abul Kalam Azad said, three and a half years have passed since the 90-day committee (Metropolitan BNP). During this time, they could not form a full-fledged committee. Now they are forming a committee from Awami League and forming a BNP. This is because the people of Rajshahi are not with them. They are an isolated party. They are looting in the name of BNP. They are doing this to belittle BNP. Stating that the current committee is BNP during the day and Awami League at night, he added, “We will not let BNP be defeated here as long as there is a drop of blood in our body. The expired committee must be quickly abolished and metropolitan, police station and ward committees must be established.”
