A court in Karimganj, Kishoreganj, has sentenced three people from the same family, including a father, to death for killing their daughter to frame their opponent. At the same time, a fine of Tk 50,000 has been imposed on each of them. Judge Muhammad Nurul Amin of the Senior District and Sessions Judge’s Court of Kishoreganj announced the verdict on Wednesday afternoon.

The death-sentenced accused are Anwarul Islam Angur (73), his brother Khurshid Mia (52) and nephew Sadek Mia (36) of Bhatia Zahirkona village in Kiraton Union of Karimganj Upazila. They were not present in the court when the verdict was announced. According to the brief description of the case, Anwarul Islam (Angur) of Bhatia Zahirkona area of Karimganj had a dispute with Abu Bakar Siddique and some others from the same area over land. On August 10, 2016, Anwarul and his brother and nephew stabbed their daughter Mira Akhter to death to frame their opponent. Later, he dumped her body in the forest behind the house. The next day, Anwarul filed a murder case against 16 people, including Abu Bakar, at Karimganj Police Station. Later, after investigating, the police found evidence that Anwarul Islam and some of his relatives were involved in the murder.

Since no evidence was found to link those who were accused in the murder case, the final report was submitted to the court on September 3, 2017. On that day, Karimganj Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Alok Kumar Dutta filed a murder case against the deceased Mira’s father Anwarul Islam, his brother Khurshid Mia, nephew Sadek Mia and Anwarul’s wife Mosha. Nazmunnahar. On February 7, 2018, the police filed a chargesheet against the four accused in the court.

Kishoreganj Court Public Prosecutor (PP) Jalal Uddin said that in this sensational incident, three people, including the deceased’s father, have been sentenced to death along with a fine. However, the accused Nazmunnahar, the mother of the deceased, was acquitted as the charges were not proven. All three accused are currently absconding after going out on bail.
