Low interest, thousands of doses in stock
67,000 doses of Pfizer vaccine arrived in Chittagong on May 27. This vaccine has been kept in the EPI storage of the Civil Surgeon’s Office. 300 doses have been sent to various upazilas. Vaccination activities started there from the first week of June. However, interest in the vaccination centers there is very low.
EPI supervisor Joynab Begum said, “We have kept sufficient vaccines in stock. We have also distributed them at the upazila level. However, there is no response. These vaccines can be given until August.”
Health and Family Welfare Officer of Anwara Upazila Health Complex Mahtab Uddin Chowdhury said, “We have received the vaccine, but people are not coming to get it. We are running a campaign through the EPI center.”
The Civil Surgeon’s Office said that those who have taken one or two doses before can take this booster dose. Even those who have not been vaccinated before can take this dose. Everyone aged 12 and above has the opportunity to get this vaccine.
Civil Surgeon Jahangir Alam told Prothom Alo, “The vaccine is open to everyone. “We have sufficient stock, more will come in phases. Health workers are also getting vaccinated themselves, and the general public is also being encouraged.”
