A college student committed suicide by hanging herself in Charamshua village of Farajikandi union in Matlab Uttar upazila of Chandpur.
The incident occurred at around 10:15 am on Thursday, August 14. The deceased’s name is Shamima Akhter (18). She is the daughter of Salauddin Miji and Fatema Begum of Miji bari in Charamshua.
According to local sources, Shamima Akhter passed her HSC from Matlab Raymonnesa Women’s College in the current year 2024. She was talking to someone on her mobile phone on the morning of the incident. Later, family members suspected that she might have chosen suicide due to some love affair. The mother of the deceased, Fatema Begum, said that she was busy with housework in the morning. Suddenly, when she saw her daughter hanging, she screamed and the neighbors came and took her down, but by then she had stopped breathing.
On receiving the information, Matlab Uttar police reached the spot, recovered the body and started legal proceedings.
Matlab Uttar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Rabiul Haque said, “Initially, it is believed to be a suicide. The body has been recovered and sent to Chandpur Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy. The exact cause of death will be known after the autopsy report. The matter is being investigated.”
