Chief Advisor calls for further increase in Japan’s cooperation with Bangladesh

Chief Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus called on Japan to further enhance cooperation in the fields of investment, fisheries, humanitarian assistance for the Rohingya, youth development—especially in education and sports.

The Chief Advisor made the call during a meeting with Miyazaki Katsura, Executive Senior Vice President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), at the Jamuna State Guest House in Dhaka on Thursday.

Muhammad Yunus said, “Japan has always been a trusted friend. I recently visited your country and I was deeply touched by the sincerity and hospitality shown to me and my delegation.”

Chief Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus called on Japan to further strengthen cooperation in the fields of investment, fisheries, humanitarian assistance for the Rohingya, youth development—especially education and sports.

The Chief Advisor made the call during a meeting with Miyazaki Katsura, Executive Senior Vice President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), at the Jamuna State Guest House in Dhaka on Thursday.

Muhammad Yunus said, “Japan has always been a trusted friend. I recently visited your country and I was deeply touched by the sincerity and hospitality shown to me and my delegation.”

Miyazaki said, Bangladesh is one of Japan’s most important partners in Asia. He reiterated Japan’s commitment to continue supporting Bangladesh’s development journey.

The JICA Executive Senior Vice President said, “We deeply grieve for those who died and were injured in the July Movement.”

The Chief Advisor highlighted the importance of the Matarbari project at the meeting. He called it “the most important region for the future of Bangladesh.”

Muhammad Yunus highlighted the importance of Bangladesh’s maritime potential. He said, “I spoke to the president of JICA in Japan and told him that we want to become a sea-based economy.”
