Chhatra Dal complains to VC about rigging in DUCSU elections
When Chhatra Dal made its verbal complaint to the administration, the Vice-Chancellor, the Treasurer and other concerned persons were present along with Vice-Chancellor Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan.
On behalf of Chhatra Dal, three complaints were raised with the university administration. These are the large presence of Jamaat-Shibir leaders and activists at the eight entrances of the university, top officials of the administration being affiliated with Jamaat, and rigging in the elections. Regarding the complaint, Chhatra Dal President Rakibul Islam said, “A large number of people have gathered at the eight entrances of the university since noon. This election is not of Jamaat-Shibir, it is of the university. But looking at their presence, it seems that this is the election of Jamaat. But the administration is so submissive that they have not taken any action. We condemn it, there could be a clash here at any time. We want an explanation from the administration on this matter.’
The Chhatra Dal president, raising allegations against the university administration, said, ‘We are officially saying today that the top people of the Dhaka University administration have completely become Jamaat-e-Islami.’
Explaining the reason for this perception, Rakibul Islam said, ‘We have seen various riggings surrounding the DUCSU elections. We have complained to the administration, but we have not received any results yet.’ In response to the Chhatra Dal president’s complaint, Vice-Chancellor Niaz Ahmed Khan said that he had received information about public gatherings at various entrances of the university since 4 pm. Stating that steps have been taken in this regard, he said, ‘Since then, we have spoken to the police and the Home Affairs Advisor and made arrangements to increase the number of law enforcement officers. We are keeping a close eye on the matter. If necessary, we will talk to the police again to see if they have increased security.’
Regarding the allegations of political involvement of the administration, the Vice Chancellor said, ‘I have never been personally involved with any political party. I have no interest in political parties. However, I will welcome any opinion for this university.’
Regarding the allegations of rigging in the election, the Vice Chancellor said, ‘Members of the media were present all day. They entered various centers. They saw the situation. If there were allegations of irregularities anywhere, we took action quickly. Now the vote counting will be shown outside. So there is no chance of rigging in the election.’
