Case filed 10 months after college student killed in anti-discrimination protest in Dupchanchia

A murder case has been filed nearly 10 months after college student Monirul Islam (22) was shot dead during an anti-discrimination student movement in Dupchanchia upazila of Bogra. On Monday night, the deceased college student’s father, Shamsul Islam of Birkedar village in Kahalu upazila, filed a case with the police station, naming 35 people from the Awami League and its affiliates. The case statement includes the names of 35 people including former Dupchanchia Upazila Awami League president Mizanur Rahman Khan, current president Aminur Rahman, general secretary Emdadul Haque, former chairman of the Upazila Parishad Fazlul Haque, vice president and former mayor Belal Hossain, and upazila Jubo League president Ahmedur Rahman. In addition, 50 to 60 people have been named as unknown accused. Dupchanchia Police Station Officer-in-Charge Faridul Islam confirmed the case and said that efforts are underway to arrest the accused in the statement.

The case alleges that on August 4, around 10:30 am, a student protest called by the anti-discrimination student movement was attacked on a rally. College student Monirul Islam was shot dead on the spot. He was a second-year student of Bangabandhu College in Badalgachhi upazila of Naogaon.
