BNP will continue to trust the government, discussion at the standing committee meeting
BNP will continue to trust and believe in the interim government led by Professor Muhammad Yunus. That is why the party’s policy-making leaders have taken a policy decision not to get involved in anything that creates distrust for the time being.
According to responsible sources in BNP, the issue was discussed in the party’s standing committee meeting held on Monday night, keeping in mind two recent events. One of them is the London meeting and the situation after the meeting. The other is the movement of party leader Ishraq Hossain. During the London meeting on June 13, in discussions with BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman, the interim government’s chief advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus announced the possible date of the national election in the first half of February next year. The chief advisor returned to the country on June 14. But so far, the government has not given any instructions to the Election Commission regarding the election. The leaders discussed various aspects of it in the standing committee meeting.

BNP will continue to have faith and trust in the interim government led by Professor Muhammad Yunus. That is why distrust has arisen, the party’s policy-making leaders have taken a policy decision not to get involved in anything like that for now.
According to responsible sources in BNP, the issue was discussed in the party’s standing committee meeting held on Monday night, keeping in mind two recent events. One of them is the London meeting and the situation after the meeting. The other is the movement of party leader Ishraq Hossain. Meanwhile, in a meeting in London on June 13, the interim government’s chief advisor, Professor Muhammad Yunus, announced the possible date of the national election in the first half of February next year in discussions with BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman. The chief advisor returned to the country on June 14. But so far, the government has not given any instructions to the Election Commission regarding the election. At the standing committee meeting, the leaders discussed various aspects of it.
On the other hand, BNP central leader Ishraq Hossain is protesting demanding to be sworn in as the mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation after receiving the court’s verdict. In the meantime, he has started performing the duties of mayor on his own responsibility since last Monday without taking the oath. He also exchanged views with the city corporation’s officials and employees. At the standing committee meeting held last Monday under the chairmanship of the party’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman, the leaders reviewed two incidents.
The leaders expressed the opinion that if Ishraq Hossain withdraws from the protest after the London meeting, it will send the wrong message to the people that BNP has reached an agreement with the government on all issues. Critics will also get a chance. So the movement should continue in the country. Of course, it was also discussed in the meeting that although BNP supports this movement, the party is not directly involved. The leaders want to show it as a movement of the ‘guardianless’ people of Dhaka South City.
