BNP, Jamaat, NCP have different proposals on the appointment of chief advisor

BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami and Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) have submitted separate proposals to the National Consensus Commission on the process of appointing the chief advisor to this government.

The Constitutional Reform Commission had proposed appointing the chief advisor to the caretaker government through the National Constitutional Council (NCC). However, in the wake of the political parties’ discussions with the Consensus Commission, the NCC’s proposal was dropped. As a result, the recommendation on the outline of the caretaker government system proposed by the Constitutional Reform Commission was also dropped.

Last Thursday, the Consensus Commission presented a new proposal on the outline of the caretaker government. However, there was no consensus on it.

Meanwhile, BNP raised a proposal in the Consensus Commission’s discussion last Sunday. Then, Jamaat submitted its proposal to the commission last Monday. And last May, the NCP submitted its proposal to the commission on the outline of the caretaker government.

These proposals may be discussed in the meeting of the consensus commission with political parties next week.
