BNP factions clash during July Uprising Day procession in Feni, 15 injured

A clash has occurred between two factions of the party over a BNP procession in Daganbhuiyan, Feni. At least 15 leaders and activists were injured in the incident. The incident took place in the Zero Point area of Daganbhuiyan Municipality on Tuesday afternoon.

According to eyewitnesses and party sources, Daganbhuiyan Upazila and Municipal BNP organized a procession on the occasion of the July Mass Uprising Day as part of BNP’s central program. When the procession reached Zero Point via Chaumuhani Road, another faction of the party, which had taken up position in advance, launched a surprise attack there.

Among the injured at the time were Upazila Women’s Party President Jahanara Begum, Chhatra Dal convener Saimun Haque, member secretary Touhidul Islam, Chhatra Dal activists Sohel, Sarwar, Belal, Sifat and Milon. They have been treated at various clinics including the Daganbhuiyan Upazila Health Complex.

Daganbhuiyan Upazila BNP convener Akbar Hossain said, “Our peaceful procession was ambushed by former municipal BNP general secretary Kazi Saifur Rahman, Abul Hashem and Jamshedur Rahman, who was expelled from Chhatra Dal. 10 to 15 leaders and activists were injured in this.” He said that preparations are underway to file a case in this incident.

On the other hand, denying the allegations, former municipal BNP general secretary Kazi Saifur Rahman said, “We were holding a pre-announced blood donation program at Zero Point. During the procession, some of their leaders and activists hurled insults, which led to an altercation. Later, we brought the situation under control. In fact, five of our activists were injured in their attack.”

Daganbhuiyan Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer ASM Sohrab Al Sohain Tanvir said that 12 people who were injured in the clash between the two BNP factions came for treatment. 11 of them have been discharged after receiving primary treatment, while one has been sent to the 250-bed Feni General Hospital.

Daganbhuiyan Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Wahid Parvez said that if tension arises between the two parties over the procession, the police will take immediate action. No one has filed a written complaint in this incident yet. If a complaint is received, legal action will be taken after investigating it.
