BGMEA proposes to build integrated ready-made garment industrial zone in Chittagong
BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan, an organization of ready-made garment industry owners, has proposed to establish an integrated ready-made garment industrial zone in the city to sustain small and medium-sized ready-made garment factories in Chittagong.
For this, the BGMEA President requested Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) and Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) Executive Chairman Chowdhury Ashiq Mahmud Bin Harun (Ashik Chowdhury) to allocate a piece of land at a symbolic price in favor of the organization.
BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan made this request in a meeting held with Ashiq Chowdhury at BIDA’s office today, Monday. BIDA Executive Chairman said that a committee will be formed in this regard with representatives of BGMEA and BIDA. That committee will present an action plan within a week.
The BGMEA delegation at the meeting included the organization’s vice president Mizanur Rahman, vice president Vidya Amrit Khan, director Samiha Azim. In addition, BIDA executive member Md. Mokhlesur Rahman and BEZA executive member Saleh Ahmed were present. The matter was informed in a press release sent by BGMEA and BIDA.
The meeting discussed the Bangladesh Bank’s loan classification policy. BGMEA leaders requested to increase the three-month grace period to six months. They said that sometimes due to financial crisis, entrepreneurs fail to pay installments on time and default on loans.
