Bangladesh wins three bronze medals at International Mathematical Olympiad

Bangladeshi students have won 3 bronze medals and 3 honorable mentions in the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) this year. The Bangladesh team scored a total of 113 marks in the 66th World Mathematical Olympiad. A maximum of six competitors from each country can participate from the pre-university level.

After the evaluation of the papers, the final jury meeting was held as per the rules of the International Mathematical Olympiad. The jury meeting was held at the Sunshine Coast Convention Center in Queensland from 9 pm to 12 am, Australian local time, on Friday. Where the team leaders and sub-team leaders of all the participating countries participated. From this jury meeting, it was decided that out of the total 42 marks, those who scored above 35 marks this year will be awarded gold medals, those who scored above 28 marks will be awarded silver medals, and those who scored above 19 marks will be awarded bronze medals.

Jitendra Barua of Chittagong Baklia Government College won the bronze medal by scoring 24 marks. Jawad Hameem Chowdhury of Ideal School and College won the bronze with 22 marks. Tahsin Khan of Mymensingh Zilla School won the bronze with 21 marks. Apart from this, M. Jamiul Hossain of Rajuk Uttara Model College got 18 marks with honorable recognition, Manami Zaman of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College in Dhaka got 15 marks, and Md. Raihan Siddiqui of Chittagong College got 13 marks. Jitendra Barua, who won the bronze medal, said, “I have participated for the third time this year. This is the last time, this time I got better marks than before. With this bronze medal in the Mathematics Olympiad, I will continue to strive to do well in research and higher education in the future.” M. Jamiul Hossain, who won the honorable recognition, said, “I missed the bronze medal by one mark. Although I am a little upset, I will prepare well for the future. We all did well together, and I am proud of this.’ Eminent educationist Professor Mohammad Kaikobad, President of the Bangladesh Mathematics Olympiad Committee, said, ‘I heartily congratulate the Bangladesh Mathematics Olympiad team participating in the International Mathematics Olympiad for winning three bronze medals. It may be mentioned that this time our team is relatively new. In addition, I congratulate and thank Dutch-Bangla Bank, Prothom Alo, Bandhushaba, Mathematics Olympiad volunteers, colleagues of the Mathematics Olympiad Committee and all our well-wishers.’
