\Bagchas panel announces name of Student Unity Forum, internal conflict exposed
The Bangladesh Democratic Students’ Union (Bagsas) university branch has announced a panel called ‘Shiksharthi Oikya Forum’ for the Jahangirnagar University Students’ Union (Jaksu) elections. Hazrat Ali, the maternal uncle of martyr Nafisa Marwa, who was killed in Savar in the July Uprising, announced the panel at a press conference at the foot of the university’s Shaheed Minar around 4:30 pm today, Friday.

Arifuzzaman Ujjal, convener of the Bagsas university branch, will be contesting for the post of Vice President (VP) from this panel. Abu Touhid Mohammad Siam, the organization’s member secretary, has been nominated for the post of General Secretary (GS). Meanwhile, two leaders of the organization are preparing to contest for the post of Associate General Secretary (AGS) independently as they could not be nominated for the desired post in the panel. One has already announced his resignation from the organization. In addition, an accused in a murder case has been nominated from this panel.
Other candidates on the panel of the Bagchas Students’ Unity Forum are Ziauddin Ayan, the organization’s joint convener, for the post of Associate General Secretary (boys), Maliha Namla for the post of Associate General Secretary (girls), Farhana Binte Jigar Farina for the post of Education and Research Secretary, and Md. Sajjad Hossain, Maziur Rahman Chowdhury for the post of Literature and Publications Editor, Raed Hossain for the post of Cultural Editor, Fatema Tuz Johra (Boishakhi) for the post of Co-Cultural Editor, Sabikunnahar (Poly) for the post of Co-Sports Editor (Female), Ring Yong Murong (Rushad) for the post of Co-Sports Editor (Male), Safib Al Mahmud Arnab for the post of Information Technology and Library Editor, Ahsan Labib for the post of Social Service and Human Resource Development Editor, Nadia Rahman Anbesha for the post of Co-Social Service and Human Resource Development Editor (Female), Kazi Mehrab (Turyo) for the post of Co-Social Service and Human Resource Development Editor (Male), Nasim Al Tariq for the post of Health and Food Security Editor, and Md. Nahid Hasan (EMON) for the post of Transport and Communication Editor.
Apart from this, Prishati Khan, Tanjila Tasneem Setu, Afia Ibnat Samiha will be elected for the posts reserved for women in the executive membership. And Sadat Hane Islam, Jameen Ahmed and Mohammad Ali Chishti will be elected for the three posts reserved for boys in the executive membership.
After the panel announcement, Vice President candidate Arifuzzaman said, “We have not included members of any other political party in our panel. We have tried to include the conscious students of the university who have been working for a long time to realize the rights of all other students, embodying the spirit of the mass uprising and implementing the aspirations of the mass uprising, and have been at the forefront of various movements including university reforms since August 5. We have tried to ensure maximum participation of female students. We have also kept female candidates for other posts outside the reserved women’s posts. Indigenous students have also been kept in our panel. We hope that the administration will provide free and fair JACSU elections on September 11.”
