Terming Bashundhara Group, one of the country’s leading industrial groups, as a ‘media mafia’, he said that some journalists are trying to portray his logical statement and position against a mafia group as a ‘threat to the media’. Attempts are being made to portray rational statements against ‘mafia’ Bashundhara as a ‘threat to the media’: Hasnat Abdullah
Hasnat Abdullah said these words in a post on his verified Facebook account on Tuesday afternoon. Referring to the Bashundhara Group as a ‘land grabber, accused in a murder case many years ago and a media mafia’, Hasnat said, ‘I have clearly stated what I have said in my statement and I am still clearly stating it again, I have warned the authorities of the Bashundhara Group, a land grabber, accused in a murder case many years ago, and a media mafia, to stop spreading disinformation and hate against the leaders of the coup and focus on professional journalism.’ Hasnat Abdullah said, ‘I have never threatened the independent media of Bangladesh, rather I am an advocate for independent media. But giving a platform to the allies of fascism in the name of freedom and spreading disinformation against anyone will not be accepted.’ Hasnat Abdullah wrote in a Facebook post that the wheels of the cultural and intellectual ‘machinery’ of the fallen fascists have started to move and unfortunately, this process of moving has been started by some of the journalists who took a stand against the fallen fascists in July-August 24. The Bashundhara Group, known as ‘land grabbers’ and ‘media mafia’, gave a statement the day before yesterday condemning how they played a role in strengthening the fallen fascists before August 5 and how they are continuing a series of disinformation and hate campaigns against the youth who led the uprising after August 5. In that statement, he condemned the way this media mafia group is giving platforms to the foot soldiers of the fallen fascists in their newspapers and warned them for the future to desist from such misdeeds.
