Asim Munir met Trump over lunch in the Cabinet Room of the White House. Trump was accompanied by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and US Special Representative for the Middle East Steve Witkoff. Field Marshal Munir was accompanied by Islamabad’s National Security Advisor. GeoNews reported, citing a statement from Pakistan’s ISPR, that Army Chief Munir praised US President Trump’s statesmanlike mindset and ability to understand and deal with global complexities. Trump also praised Field Marshal Munir’s leadership and ability to make quick decisions. He highly appreciated the US-Pakistan cooperation in combating terrorism.
Although the meeting was initially scheduled for one hour, it lasted more than two hours. The meeting discussed various aspects of enhancing bilateral cooperation, including trade, economic development, mineral resources, artificial intelligence, energy, etc.
The ISPR statement said that President Trump expressed his interest in a profitable trade deal with Pakistan based on a long-term strategic partnership.
The two also reportedly discussed the Iran-Israel crisis. During the meeting, President Trump and Field Marshal Asim Munir stressed the “need for a peaceful resolution” to the ongoing conflict.
