ASI arrested in Savar student Yamin murder case
A policeman who was on the run in the murder case of student Shaikh Ashhabul Yamin, who was dragged from a police armored vehicle (APC) during an anti-discrimination student movement in Savar, Dhaka, has been arrested. Police have handed him over to the International Crimes Tribunal investigation agency after arresting him from Murapara area of Rupganj upazila in Narayanganj on Sunday morning.

The arrested Mohammad Ali (31) is working as an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of the police. His home is in Kalaihati village of Sadar police station in Kishoreganj district. Savar Model Police Station-Police said that a team of police including Inspector (Operation) of Savar Model Police Station Md. Helal Uddin conducted a drive in Rupganj Murapara area of Narayanganj around 6 am on Sunday. During the drive, they arrested ASI Mohammad Ali, the accused in the Ashhabul Yamin murder case. As he was an accused in an International Crimes Tribunal case, he was handed over to the coordinator of the International Crimes Tribunal’s investigation agency after his arrest. Savar Model Police Station Inspector (Operation) Md. Helal Uddin told Prothom Alo that ASI Mohammad Ali, the accused in the Yamin murder case, was absconding for a long time. He was arrested in a raid in Murapara area of Narayanganj district this (Sunday) morning. His current place of work was Dhaka District Police Lines. He had been absconding for a long time.
Incidentally, Sheikh Ashhabul Yamin was martyred in a student-public movement in Savar on July 18 last year. At that time, a video of him being pulled down from a police armored vehicle went viral on social media Facebook. Yamin was a fourth-year student of the Computer Science and Engineering Department of the Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) in Mirpur, the capital. He lived in Osmani Hall of MIST. His house was in the Bank Town residential area of Savar. make
