Anti-discrimination student movement surrounds police station and blocks highway in Chittagong

Leaders and activists of the anti-discrimination student movement have surrounded Patiya police station in Chittagong after two clashes with the police. They have been stationed in front of the main gate of Patiya police station since 9:30 am today, Wednesday. The leaders and activists claim that the police attacked them twice. They will continue the program until the incident is properly investigated.

Meanwhile, a section of the leaders and activists of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement started blocking the Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar highway in front of the Patiya police station at 10:40 am today with the same demand. This has led to traffic jams on both sides of the highway.

At around 10:45 am, it was seen on the ground that 30-40 leaders and activists of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement had taken a position in front of the police station. They were shouting various slogans against the police. In addition, a section of the leaders and activists had blocked the highway. They were sitting on the highway and shouting slogans.

When asked on the phone, Fatema Khanam, the spokesperson of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement for Chittagong city, told Prothom Alo that she was also in the program. Initially, when the leaders and activists wanted to take a position in front of the police station gate, the police stopped them. One of them was injured in the scuffle.

Earlier, on Tuesday night at 9:30 pm and 11:30 pm, there were two clashes between the leaders and activists of the anti-discrimination student movement and the Patiya police. Both sides claimed that 19 people were injured in the clashes.
