A person accused in a drug case, who had a fake certificate, lost his position as school president.
In addition to forging the certificate, Mohammad Ali was also accused of being involved in drug trafficking. According to court sources, on October 28, 2021, 1,000 liters of brewed liquor were recovered in Boalkhali. A case was registered against him under the Narcotics Control Act in this incident. After the investigation, a charge sheet was submitted to the court against five people including Mohammad Ali. The police arrested Mohammad Ali in this case on July 22, 2022. He was later released on bail. The drug case is currently pending. On July 31, Prothom Alo published a news online under the title ‘Accused in drug case, gave “fake” certificate, yet he is the president of the school committee’. Educationists and concerned persons criticized the appointment of the accused in the drug case as the president of the school committee.
According to sources from the Chittagong Education Board, when Mohammad Ali was appointed as the president, his graduation certificate mentioned that he graduated from the ‘Islamic History and Culture’ department of Southern University in 2003. After allegations of forgery of the certificate, the board sent it to Southern University. Southern University authorities said that the certificate is fake. They do not have a department by this name. The one that does exist is called Islamic Studies. That department was launched in 2010. Chittagong Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board Chairman Ilias Uddin Ahmed told Prothom Alo, ‘We formed a two-member verification committee. The committee submitted a report. Southern reported that the certificate was fake. As per the rules, Mohammad Ali has been removed from the post of president of the ad hoc committee of Uttar Gomdandi High School.’
A notification signed by Syed A.Z. Morshed Ali, Deputy Secretary of the Secondary and Higher Education Department, on November 18 last year, said that the educational qualification of the president of the ad hoc committee is post-graduate in the case of college and graduation in the case of school. Mohammad Ali became the president on March 24 this year using a fake certificate. The four-member committee was approved for a period of six months.
