We should get out of foreign debt: Anisuzzaman Chowdhury

According to Anisuzzaman Chowdhury, the country has to comply with conditions while accepting foreign aid in the development sector; due to which both revenue collection and foreign investment are hampered. It will have to get out of foreign debt.

Anisuzzaman Chowdhury made these remarks as the chief guest at the budget review meeting organized by the Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) and the research organization Policy Research Institute (PRI) at the capital’s Police Plaza on Monday.

Anisuzzaman Chowdhury said, “We have no plan for when our tax policy will be implemented, in how many years. But I saw in Australia that a political party lost the election just by increasing VAT.” He highlighted the lack of national unity, indifference to the implementation of political programs, and the tendency of partisanship in the health and education sectors. He said, “We do not have national unity. We think about our own petty political interests. Here, doctors and teachers have separate associations of BNP, Awami League and other parties. We do not have a vision. If we get a slight cold, we go to Singapore, then how will the country’s health sector stand?” Anisuzzaman further said, “21, 11 and 6-point politics are going on here. But there is no outline for implementing these programs. But in Australia, a political party lost the election just by increasing VAT.” Metropolitan Chamber President Kamran T. Rahman, PRI Chairman Zaidi Sattar and others also spoke at the meeting.
