Is ChatGPT reducing our thinking power, MIT research reveals surprising information

A new study by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the United States has provided some alarming information. Researchers have found that those who use ChatGPT to write have reduced brain activity. Along with this, their thinking ability is also reduced. Researchers at the MIT Media Lab conducted an experiment on 54 people aged 18-39 in Boston, USA.

They divided these people into three groups and asked them to write a few articles. The members of the first group used ChatGPT to write articles. The second group used the Google search engine, and the members of the third group wrote the articles without any help. The researchers monitored the activity of 32 parts of their brains with an EEG (electroencephalogram) machine. The EEG machine usually records the electrical activity of the brain. The researchers themselves were surprised by the results. They had a frown on their foreheads. Because ChatGPT users had the least activity in their brains. They performed poorly in all aspects – neurological, linguistic, and behavioral. This experiment has been going on for several months. Those who used ChatGPT gradually became more lazy. In the end, they were just copying and pasting. The MIT paper has not yet been submitted for full review. In addition, its sample is relatively small, with only 54 people in the study. But Natalia Kosmina, the lead author of the study, believes it is important to publish the results now. She fears that if society becomes too dependent on artificial intelligence for immediate benefits, our brain development could be damaged in the long term.

Kosmina said, “I decided to publish this now because, I am afraid, in six to eight months, some policymaker might decide to launch GPT kindergartens. I think this would be the wrong decision. Developing brains could be at risk.”
