According to party sources, the police arrested Habibur Rahman, the secretary of the party’s Chandgaon police station, in an extortion case in the Kaptai road area of the city around 11 pm yesterday. The leaders and activists have been stationed at the police station since this morning in view of this incident.

Leaders and activists of Islami Andolan Bangladesh claim that their leader has been arrested in a false case. Last April, Islami Andolan held a rally against extortion in the Kaptai road area. After that, no extortion took place there. However, the people involved in the extortion got angry. They accused Habibur Rahman of extortion. Masudur Rahman, general secretary of the Islamic Youth Movement Chittagong city, told Prothom Alo that Habibur Rahman’s name was conspiratorially implicated in a committee formed to collect extortion. A person filed a case based on that. When he came to talk about some of the people arrested in that case yesterday, the police arrested Habibur.
