BCCI officials to ‘silently’ boycott India-Pakistan match
India is the host of this year’s Asia Cup. But due to their tense political relations with Pakistan, both teams no longer play in each other’s country.
Before the Champions Trophy held in February-March, a three-year agreement was signed between the two neighboring countries to play their matches at neutral venues. In this process, the Asia Cup was also shifted from India to the United Arab Emirates.
In the last week of April, there was also concern about whether the India-Pakistan match would take place in the Asia Cup. In the end, the match will take place, but according to Jagran, no BCCI official has reached Dubai so far. On the day of the match, a BCCI official is scheduled to be at the Dubai International Stadium. A ‘boycott campaign’ has been started among a large section of fans across India in favor of canceling the match against Pakistan. The country’s media reported that after that, BCCI officials have decided to silently boycott the match against Pakistan.
All the top BCCI officials and representatives of state cricket associations were present at the India-Pakistan match in the Champions Trophy this year in Dubai. This time, perhaps fearing criticism, BCCI officials will not be present at the stadium due to the rivalry between the two neighbors, according to Indian media. However, according to Jagran, Rajiv Shukla may be at the stadium for this match as a member of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). However, it is more likely that ICC Chairman Jay Shah or BCCI Secretary Debjit Saikia will not be present.
