Desk Report,

Sushila Ki is the Prime Minister of Nepal’s interim government

Former Nepali Chief Justice Sushila Karki could be appointed as the country’s interim prime minister, a source familiar with the discussions told Reuters on Friday.

Massive protests erupted last week over a ban on social media. Clashes between protesters and security forces left 34 dead and more than 1,300 injured. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli resigned on Tuesday after two days of protests. A constitutional expert told Reuters that Sushila Karki would be appointed as the interim prime minister. The expert claimed that Nepal’s President Ram Chandra Paudel and Army Chief Ashok Raj Sigdel had consulted with him. However, the expert did not want to be named because the subject of the discussion was sensitive.

The expert added that “Gen Z wants her (Sushila). It will happen today.” The name has become popular because most of the protesters are of the Gen Z generation.

A Gen-G source said Karki could be formally announced as the interim prime minister after a meeting at President Paudel’s residence.

Reuters tried to contact the president’s office and the army spokesman for this. But there was no response.

Nepal is located between India and China. The country has been experiencing political and economic instability since the end of the monarchy in 2008. There is a lack of employment in the country. So millions of people are working abroad and sending money home.

Normality began to return to the capital Kathmandu on Friday. Shops are opening, cars are moving on the roads. Police officers no longer carry guns as before, they are carrying out their duties with batons.

However, some roads are still closed. Army personnel are patrolling the streets. But their numbers are smaller than before.
