Attempts are being made to bring in foreigners through fake identity cards, alleges Umama Fatima
Umama Fatema made these allegations at a press conference in front of the Madhur Canteen of Dhaka University on Monday evening. Al Sadi Bhuiyan, General Secretary (GS) candidate of the Independent Students’ Union Panel, and others were present at the press conference. They urged the Election Commission to take action on some specific issues, including the above-mentioned allegations, to organize a fair and acceptable election. Attempts to bring outsiders in, Umama Fatema said, “We are hearing from various quarters that attempts are being made to bring outsiders in by making fake ID cards. We are also hearing that there may be attempts to prolong the voting time by creating queues. In this situation, we want to tell the university administration that it is your sole responsibility to ensure the security of the polling stations.’
Calling on the university administration, the VP candidate said, ‘This is the first time an election is going to be held at Dhaka University after 17 years of dictatorial rule. Realizing the importance of the situation from that place, arrangements must be made so that voters can vote without any hindrance. It must be ensured that there are no fake ID cards and line jams. Mobile teams must be placed at each center to check the ID cards. Appropriate action must be taken if anyone suspicious is found.
Calling for information technology (IT) security for candidates, Umama Fatema said, ‘The Facebook IDs of candidates of various panels are being attacked and disabled. Such an environment is being created to discourage voters from coming to the polling stations. In such a situation, we are demanding IT security for candidates from the university administration and the Election Commission. So that candidates can also say their last-minute words. Besides, arrangements must be made so that everyone can compete equally without any chaos on the election day.’
Demanding medical facilities for students at the polling stations, Umama Fatema said that the election is going to be held in extremely hot weather. Therefore, this candidate requested to have adequate water, medical facilities and seating arrangements for the voters.
This VP candidate of the Independent Students’ Unity Panel demanded that police members be deployed along with BNCC and Rover Scouts for the safety of the students. He expressed hope that the administration will be vigilant so that the voters do not face any kind of insecurity or any kind of unwanted incident occurs tomorrow.
