509 nominations submitted for 28 posts in DUCSU elections
The time for submitting nomination papers for the Dhaka University Central Students‘ Union (DUCSU) elections has ended. A total of 509 nomination papers have been submitted for 28 DUCSU posts. This time, students collected 658 nomination papers for various posts. Of that, 149 nomination papers were not submitted.
DUCSU Election Chief Returning Officer Professor Mohammad Jasim Uddin gave this information in a briefing on the third floor of the university’s Nawab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Building on Wednesday afternoon. DUCSU Election Returning Officer Professor Kazi Maruful Islam, Professor SM Shamim Reza, Professor Golam Rabbani, Professor Nasrin Sultana, and Associate Professor Sharmin Kabir were present at the time.
Professor Mohammad Jasim Uddin said, “Today (Wednesday) was the last day for submitting nomination papers. We distributed 658 nomination papers at DUCSU. Out of which 509 nomination papers were submitted, 149 nomination papers were not submitted.” We will now scrutinize these nomination papers. We are working to publish the draft list of candidates tomorrow as per the announced schedule.’
Regarding the submission of nomination papers for the Lok Sabha, the Chief Returning Officer said, a total of 1,427 nomination papers have been distributed to the Lok Sabha. Of these, 689 nomination papers have been submitted in 12 Lok Sabha constituencies till 5:30 pm today. Of these, 36 nomination papers have been submitted to Bangamata Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall, 31 to Kuwait Maitree Hall, 31 to Shamsunnahar Hall, 40 to Sufia Kamal Hall, 68 to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall, 80 to Shaheed Sergeant Zahurul Haque Hall, 64 to Haji Muhammad Muhsin Hall, 78 to Muktijoddha Ziaur Rahman Hall, 67 to Bijoy Ekattor Hall, 67 to Sir F Rahman Hall, 62 to Salimullah Muslim Hall and 65 to Fazlul Haque Muslim Hall. The accounts of the remaining six halls have not been received yet.
In response to a question about the violation of the election code of conduct, the Chief Returning Officer said that the investigation committee has submitted a report on the incident of obstructing the collection of nomination papers at Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall. It will be scrutinized and a decision will be taken. There is a meeting in this regard at night. And based on the allegations of violation of the code of conduct that have been received so far, warnings have been issued immediately. The candidates have accepted that.
