The extended committee of 370 members was announced in a press release signed by Jahangir Alam, the central office secretary of Chhatra Dal, on Friday. On the same day, a separate release signed by Zahir Uddin (Babor), the convener of the university branch of Chhatra Dal, and Wasim Ahmed, the member secretary, announced the committees of 17 residential halls and 1 faculty. Earlier, on January 6, the central Chhatra Dal announced the convening committee of 177 members. Accordingly, the number of committee members has reached 547. An analysis of the newly formed extended committee and the committees of 17 halls has shown that Hamidullah Salman, Raju Ahmed and Mohammad Rajan Mia, accused in the case of the beating and murder of former Chhatra League leader Shamim Mollah on the campus on September 18 last year (expelled from the university for six months), have been given positions in the Chhatra Dal. Among them, Hamidullah Bishwakabi Rabindranath Tagore is the president of Chhatra Dal, Raju is the joint convener of the Chhatra Dal branch and Rajan has been given membership.

In this regard, Hamidullah Salman told Prothom Alo, “I am in no way involved in that murder. The university administration hastily filed a false case against me under pressure from the mob without any investigation. I was also expelled for six months in this incident. Now I am a regular student. That case is still under investigation. If the case is properly investigated, I will be proven innocent.’
