The elections will be held in February, and people across the country are waiting for it, said BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, saying that before that, the people of Bangladesh are waiting for their leader Tarique Rahman to return to the country.

The party’s Secretary General mentioned the expectation that BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman will lead them after returning home.

Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said this while speaking as a special guest at a rally organized by the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal at Shahbagh Square in the capital on Sunday afternoon. Chhatra Dal organized this student rally on the occasion of the anniversary of the historic mass uprising in July-August.

Speaking at the rally, the BNP Secretary General said, “Our leader Tarique Saheb sat in London and discussed with Chief Advisor Professor Yunus and decided that the elections will be held in February. The people of all Bangladesh are waiting, the elections will be held in Bangladesh in February. Before that, the people of all Bangladesh are waiting for our leader Tarique Rahman Saheb to return to the country. Right? We all want it, right? He will come, lead us, show us the way.’

Mentioning that students should move forward by cultivating their talent and intelligence, Mirza Fakhrul said, ‘We cannot move forward without talent. And we have to move forward through the practice of knowledge and science, the practice of talent.’ In his speech, the BNP Secretary General accused Sheikh Hasina, saying, ‘Fascist Hasina has taken refuge in our neighboring country, India, with her people. From there, she is occasionally threatening that they will attack Bangladesh. Not only that, but they are trying to create chaos here in various ways.’

Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir called on everyone to remain united to confront such activities. He said, ‘Today we have to remain united. Many attempts are being made to create division in Bangladesh.’

In this context, the BNP Secretary General also said, ‘We have to take an oath from today’s rally that we will never give Sheikh Hasina any opportunity to do politics in this country again. We have to take an oath that we will never bow down to anyone. We will make our country self-sufficient.’ Earlier, the student rally began at around 2:30 pm with the speech of Chhatra Dal President Rakibul Islam. BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman joined virtually at around 3:15 pm. Then the main formalities of the rally began with the recitation of the Holy Quran. After that, the national anthem was played.

BNP Vice Chairmen Shamsuzzaman and Asaduzzaman, advisor to the party chairperson Amanullah Aman, Joint Secretary General Khairul Kabir, Habib Un Nabi Khan, Shahid Uddin Chowdhury, and others also spoke at the rally, chaired by Chhatra Dal President Rakibul Islam and moderated by General Secretary Nasir Uddin.
