There must be labor representatives in parliament: Nasiruddin Patwari

NCP leader Nasiruddin Patwari said, “The majority of the parliament is made up of lawyers and businessmen, and there are no workers there. So if there are no workers there, who will speak for the workers? The MP who is in the parliament, being a big businessman, speaks in the parliament on behalf of the businessmen and not the workers. Therefore, there should be a labor representative in the National Parliament.”

Nasiruddin Patwari said these things while speaking as the chief guest at the joining ceremony of the Jatiya Nagorik Party’s labor wing at the Shafiqul Kabir Auditorium of Dhaka Reporters Unity in Segunbagicha, capital Dhaka, on Friday. Nasiruddin Patwari commented that a large part of the money earned through the sweat of the workers goes into the pockets of the owners. He said, “We have seen some leaders in the field fighting for the workers. But when they go to the field, they say, ‘They are the workers’ people; When you go inside, they say, “The owner’s people. We have to deal with them, if we cannot deal with them, the politics of the workers of Bangladesh will not stand anew. The party that was formed after the mass uprising is joining the Nagorik Party. Your responsibility is to build the National Nagorik Party as a worker-friendly party.”

Nasiruddin Patwary further said, “We have seen that despite the change of chair, the wages of the workers have not increased. A party is trying to go back to the old system by standing on the blood of the workers.” He said, “Although discussions have been held to reform everything from the Police Reform Commission, no party has raised any issue of reform for the workers. Yet, a large portion of those martyred in the mass uprising were workers.

Mazharul Islam, chief coordinator of the workers’ wing of the National Citizens’ Party, said, “The new political settlement that is being talked about cannot be implemented unless the workers are given their fair share.” He further said, “Political parties that are not only agitating for the rights of workers; but also speak as representatives of the workers in parliament should create such a system. We hope that the workers’ wing of the National Citizens’ Party will be able to create the representatives that the workers expect.”

92 workers joined the workers’ wing of the National Citizens’ Party (NCP) today. A full-fledged committee of the workers’ wing will be formed with these workers later.

The program was moderated by Aleya Khatun, joint coordinator (office) of the workers’ wing of the National Citizens’ Party. NCP’s labor wing joint coordinator Al Amin, Sajeeb Wafi, Abdul Barek, Mosharraf Hossain Swapan, and others also participated in it.
