A huge tree fell on the road in Dhanmondi, twisting a car, and one driver was seriously injured.

A huge tree fell on three vehicles on the road in Dhanmondi’s Road No. 6. A private car, two CNG-powered autorickshaws and a battery-powered rickshaw were severely damaged. An autorickshaw driver was seriously injured after being hit by the tree. The driver has been admitted to a private hospital. The tragic incident took place at around 3:30 pm on Thursday. When asked about it on Friday, Saiful Islam, Executive Engineer of Dhaka South City Corporation’s Zone-1, told Prothom Alo on his mobile phone that a private car was parked there when the tree on the sidewalk fell on the road.

He was rescued by cutting the grill of the autorickshaw with the help of the fire service. An eyewitness to the incident told Prothom Alo that several passengers of the cars were also injured in the incident. However, information about them was not available. After the accident, the road was closed until 11:30 pm yesterday. Later, the tree was cut down and traffic was allowed to pass through half the road at night. This afternoon, it was seen on the spot that a CNG-powered autorickshaw was still stuck under the tree. An engineer of Dhaka South City said that the autorickshaw that was crushed by the tree cannot be removed even tonight. It may take time until tomorrow morning to remove it.
