A mural of Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University is being demolished. The sculpture was installed in the pond between the Science and Engineering Faculty building and the old Arts Faculty building. Munmun Ahmed himself informed about the matter on social media.

The mural depicts a woman offering Anjali with her hands joined together. The mural was made by sculptor Monindra Pal from the hand of the country’s renowned dancer, choreographer, dance instructor and actress Munmun Ahmed.

Munmun Ahmed himself wrote, “Very sad, at this moment it is being demolished, the mural of Nazrul University ‘Anjali Loh More’! Which was made from the hand of my hand. It was done by sculptor Manindra Pal.’’

In the comments section of that post, musician-actor Pantha Kanai wrote, ‘If you stop talking, no one will protest. Look, all the celebrity gossips have gone silent. Look, look.’

One person asked, ‘Why is it being demolished?’ In response to that question, Munmun wrote, ‘No sculpture will be allowed to remain in the country!’ One person wrote, ‘What started it! A group of human-like monsters are destroying the history, art and culture of this country. There is no language to express hatred.’ Another commented, ‘Very sad and angry.’

Meanwhile, according to university sources, the renovation work of the university ponds has begun at a cost of more than 4 crore taka. The sculpture was built to enhance the beauty of the pond in front of the faculty building. However, after August 5, the decision to demolish the sculpture was taken due to objections from various quarters and various people in the new administration. The sculpture was installed by the then Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Soumitra Shekhar, who was accused of corruption and recruitment.

Treasurer Professor Dr. Zainul Abedin Siddiqui, who performs the routine duties of the Vice-Chancellor, told the media that a decision was made about this long ago with the deans and everyone. This is probably because of that decision. At that time, many controversial activities took place, some people strongly objected to the sculpture.
