A London-based family was robbed by robbers in the Banani Cemetery area of the capital after leaving Shahjalal International Airport. The robbers, identified as DB, snatched money, gold ornaments and an iPhone from the family, police said. A case has been filed with Banani Police Station in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Citing the family who was robbed, the police said that the robbers took away gold ornaments worth Tk 1.5 million, some cash and dollars from the family. The robbers held them hostage and threatened them. They have not yet recovered from the trauma. That is why they do not want to reveal their identities. Banani Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Russell Sarwar told Prothom Alo that some people, identified as DB, stopped the microbus carrying the expatriate family. The robbers stopped the car using the same lights that ordinary police use to signal to stop the car. Then they snatched the bag and fled. A case has been filed in this incident.

Police said the kidnappers are believed to have been following the expatriate family from the airport.
