Two passengers from Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, brought Pakistan-made ‘dew cream’ in their bags. National Security Intelligence Service (NSI) and airport customs officials identified it by scanning the bags at Chattogram Shah Amanat International Airport on Tuesday morning.

Quality control agency Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) found harmful levels of mercury and hydroquinone in many skin lightening creams in 2023. The agency has issued a warning that using these cosmetics can cause various complex diseases including skin diseases and banned their sale, marketing and import. Dew cream made in Pakistan is on this list. A notification from Chittagong Shah Amanat Airport said that 920 pieces of dew cream were seized after searching the bags of two passengers returning to Abu Dhabi this morning. In addition, 190 cartons of cigarettes were seized. The market value of the two products is 9 lakh 87 thousand taka. The two passengers are Noor Nabi of Feni and Md. Mizanur Rahman of Hathazari.

Ibrahim Khalil, spokesman for Chittagong Shah Amanat International Airport, said the goods were seized and the passport numbers of the two passengers were recorded. The passengers were released with a warning that criminal action would be taken if such incidents occur in the future.
