Supreme Court again tells Election Commission of India to accept Aadhaar and voter cards
The Supreme Court of India has again suggested that Aadhaar and voter cards be accepted as documents in the case of the Comprehensive Revision (SIR) of the Voter List in Bihar. Justice Surya Kant and Justice Jaymalya Bagchi on Monday advised the Election Commission (EC) that you are saying that these documents are fake. The list of 11 documents that you have given as identity documents can also be faked at any time. Therefore, the argument that Aadhaar or voter cards are fake does not hold water. Despite this advice, the judges, accepting the petitioners’ request, refused to grant a stay on the publication of the draft voter list. They said that the list that will be published on August 1 is just a draft. If they find irregularities, they can declare the entire process including the list null and void at any time. Therefore, there is no stay on the publication of the draft list now.
Supreme Court again tells Election Commission of India to accept Aadhaar and voter cards
In the previous hearing of this case, the Supreme Court had advised the EC to accept Aadhaar, voter and ration cards as documents. But the EC said in an affidavit that there is a problem in accepting those three cards as documents. Because those cards are easy to forge. Today, the judges said, you are assuming that these documents are fake. Instead of doing that, correct the list by assuming it is real. Where it seems fake, then take other measures. That should be tried one by one. There is no such document in the world that cannot be faked.
The judges told the EC, instead of deleting names from the list en masse, insert names en masse. Validate Aadhaar and voter cards.
The EC said that the two cards are being submitted as documents. However, other documents are also being considered along with them.
Monday’s hearing was brief. The hearing will be held again on Tuesday.
